South Kelsey and Moortown Parish Council are looking to co-opt a Parish Councillor.
 
If you are passionate about your local community and would like help your village to improve and thrive we encourage you to think about becoming a councillor. Local councils are the first tier of local government and have a strong voice to make a change.  Councillors make a huge difference to the quality of life of local people and how local issues are dealt with. We need people from all backgrounds and experiences who reflect the communities they serve to put themselves forward.
 
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
 
  • Participate constructively in the government of the parish. 
  • Ensure, with fellow councillors that the Parish Council is properly managed. 
  • Keep up to date with significant developments affecting the Parish Council at local, regional and national levels.
  • Form sound judgements based on facts of what is best for the community ensuring that any decisions are representative of the community the elected member represents.
  • Maintain proper standards of behaviour as an elected representative of the people and to treat everyone with respect. 
  • Fulfil the statutory and locally determined requirements of an elected member of a Local Authority and the parish Council, including compliance with all relevant codes of conduct and to maintain high ethical standards. 
  • Participate effectively as a member of any committee or working party to which the Councillor is  appointed. 
  • Undertake appropriate training & development to help fulfil the requirement of the Councillor role. 
  • Ability and willingness to attend monthly meetings of the Council.*
To qualify to be a councillor, an applicant must be:
  • a British, Irish or qualifying Commonwealth citizen
  • a citizen of any other member state of the European Union
  • 18 years of age by the day of nomination/election/co-option (the 'relevant day')
 
Applicants must also be one of the following:
  • on the relevant day and afterwards, are on the electoral register for the parish
  • for 12 months before that day, they have owned or tenanted land or premises in the parish
  • for 12 months before that day, their main or only place of work has been in the parish
  • for 12 months before that day, they have lived in the parish or within 4.8km (3 miles) of the parish boundary
No closing date - Consideration of applications will take place at the next available Council meeting*.
